3rd March 2006 - This was International Sex Workers Rights day, and a team from DMSC along with their cultural team, Komol Gandhar, organised an 'Art camp' in the morning, which 15 former and current students from the Delhi Art College attended. 

4th March 2006 (From 10 to 6 pm) Two teams of Komol Gandhar, cultural wing of Durbar, will perform street theatre, dance, drama and will campaign for the rights of the sex workers in several parts of the city and will distribute leaflets following the cultural activities. This will be done to highlight the plight of the sex workers. The three core messages, which will be articulated in the cultural programme are - 

Repeal of the ITPA Act

To recognise sex work as any other work, and enlisting sex work in the occupation schedule of the Labour Department, Govt of India.

Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place (afternoon)


They will perform in the following areas -

Team Number 1

Chandini Chowk (in the forenoon)

Lal Quila (in the forenoon)

To recognise self regulatory boards as the means of self regulation and social welfare measures for sex workers and their family members.

Team Number 2

Purana Quila (in the forenoon)

Chidiya Ghar (in the forenoon)

Palika Bazaar and Connaught Place (in the afternoon)


Both the teams will meet around 6 in the evening and will perform programmes jointly in front of Dilli Haat.

5th March 2006 - As part of the campaign, the team members of Komol Gandhar will spread out in other areas of Delhi namely India Gate, New Delhi Railway Station, and also in Dilli Haat.

6th March 2006 - Komol Gandhar team will be further strengthened by a traditional dance group heralding from a tribal community in West Bengal and will perform cultural programmes to heighten the campaign in several institutions - including, Jamia Milia, Delhi University and JNU.

7th March 2006 - A meeting with the Chief Minister, Ms. Sheila Dikshit, at 9.30 will take place.

From 2 to 6, workshop on building negotiation skills through cross learning will be held in Bharat Scouts and Guides Camp, Nizamuddin, which will be attended by 1200 sex workers in 8 parallel sessions. From 6 to 9 pm, cultural programme by the organisation of sex workers coming from six southern states will take place.

8th March 2006 - From 8.30 am to 9.30 am - hoisting of the flag of the National Network of Sex Workers will take place at Bharat Scouts and Guides Camp, Nizamuddin. Invited dignitaries are Ms. Renuka Chowdhury, Hon'ble Minister DWCD, Ms. Sheila Dikshit, Ms. Nafisa Ali and Director NACO, Ms, Sujata Rao.

11 to 2 pm - Demonstrations by the sex workers collective coming from 16 states from Ramlia Maidan to Jantar Mantar, followed by submission of Memorandum of Appeal to the Prime Minister's Office, and a copy to the respective Ministers of the Home, Health, and Dept of Women and Child Development. Ms. Renuka Chowdhury, Minister, will be present at Jantar Mantar, where the sex workers will congregate.

3 pm to 7 pm - Sharing of experience by the sex workers collective with a view to address violence against sex workers, legal and structural barriers, and for better implementation of HIV and anti trafficking programmes. The venue will be the Bharat Scouts and guides Camp at Nizamuddin. During this session, the following dignitaries have been invited to attend -

From 6 pm to 9 pm - a cultural programme will be presented by sex workers organisations coming from 8 different central and northern states.

9th March 2006 - From 9 am to 2 pm - The representatives of around 30 sex workers collectives, in addition to present member organisation of NNSW, will attend a workshop at Bharat Scouts and Guides Camp to develop advocacy strategy and to strengthen state and national level networking and link development with other social activist groups and movements. This workshop will be facilitated by Dr. S. Jana, Dr. Sunderaman and Dr. Sushyena Reza Pal.
